3c. Engaging Students in Learning

Students of similar voice types are often grouped together in an effort to create support systems and ownership of their said part.   Students of different levels are also intermingled within the said section, thus providing a balanced work level where lower level students are encouraged to participate at a higher level.

In addition to seating, music that is applicable to the students' lives/culture is considered/referenced when teaching a particular musical concept. While Chorale does a variety of repertoire, I will often insert a "newer" piece that the students can connect with and take ownership of.  These pieces allow the students to create present day connections with the core concepts we're teaching in the classroom.
